16 deсember 2009The Goverment approved a set of decisions on development of railway transport in Ukraine

The Government approved the Strategy of development of the railway transport of Ukraine till 2020 which foresees improvement of traffic safety and environmental indicators of the railway sector activity, attraction of investments and improvement of competitiveness of this mode of transport.

The Government approved the State program of the railway transport reforming for 2010-2015. Implementation of the program will enable to improve efficiency of work in the railway sector, optimise organisational structure and increase social standards for enployees of the railway transport. Organisational-legal, economic and technical-technological conditions for integration of the railway transport of Ukraine to the European and world transport systems are being prepared.

One of the most important decisions that have been taken is approval of the Program on providing accomodations for the employees of the railway transport which particuliarly means providing young specialists with accomodation and keeping them on the working places at the cost of the common funds of the railways and builders. Besides, the Government approved the new edition of the list of employees who are entitled to get accomodation owned by the employer.

At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine a decree on "Improvement of efficiency of transit potential of Ukraine" was approved. This directive introduces a principle of common approach to customs control, that is implemented by EU Member States and CIS countries. This will contribute to elimination of delays of freight at border-crossing procedures.

The approved resolution on improvement of efficiency of transport links with Central Europe will enable to organise direct railway gauge 1520 mm wide on routes Eastern Asia-Austria (Vienna) transit through Ukraine. Besides, this will substantially increase the transit transport due to reorientation of Eurasian freight flows by Ukrainian railways to Europe and will increase the income of the railway from transit transport and deduction to the budget.

Besides, the resolution of the Government gave the status of a customs carrier to the railways of Ukraine: this will enable to improve competitiveness in transit transport of freight by the territory of Ukraine.

The Government also apporved the Action Plan in introduction of electronic documents flow on freight transport at the railway transport of Ukraine, the Action Plan regarding development of the intermodal transport, the documents on forming of competitive environment  in the area of forwarders activity. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine also adoted the routine for subsidies for the social duty transport by railfor separate categories of citizens and feasibility study for delegation of authority for the project approval "Modernisation of the railway route Poltava-Kremenchug-Butry. Electrification of the site Poltava-Burty of the Southern railway".
